Meet Aussie dark romance author Penny Sunday!
Hachette Australia is one of Australia’s largest publishers and we are always looking for the opportunity to publish great stories. We welcome submissions from fiction, non-fiction and children’s book writers who are residents of Australia or New Zealand.
We are not looking for illustrated books, cookbooks, poetry, screenplays or academic works, and will not consider any submissions within these genres.
Please ensure you follow the Submission Guidelines below to give your submission the best chance for consideration by our editorial team. If you are unsure how to write or format your manuscript, synopsis or cover letter, we recommend getting in touch with your local writers centre for advice on polishing your submission. More information can be found at the bottom of this page.
Please do not send hardcopy submissions to our office. They will not be considered or returned.
We are looking for fiction in all categories, and especially fantasy, romance (including ‘spicy’ romance), romantic comedy, historical, new adult, speculative and science fiction, with a special focus on novels for 18- to 30-year-old readers.

Submit your picture book, junior or middle grade fiction, YA or children’s non-fiction book via the Children’s and YA Submissions portal by emailing Childrens.Submissions@hachette.com.au

You will receive an automated receipt of submission, and it will be considered by one of our editorial team. If we are interested in pursuing the project, we will contact you within six weeks of receipt of submission. If you have not heard from us within this timeframe then we have decided not to take your manuscript further.
Due to the volume of submissions we receive we are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful submissions.
There are a number of organisations that help writers improve their writing skills, assess their work and provide professional development opportunities. Each state and territory also has a writers centre that provides creative writing courses and events, industry seminars and advice, as well as services to gain developmental feedback on your work.

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) supports writers and illustrators through expert guidance, professional development, community-building, and strong advocacy for fair contracts, robust copyright protections, and appropriate remuneration.
We will never ask prospective authors for any form of payment (such as a contribution to print costs) as part of an offer of publication. We will never request bank account information as part of the manuscript submission process.
